Reverend John W. Davis became pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in June 1981.
A native of Ghent, Kentucky, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Davis. After
high school, he served in the U.S. Army for 21 years and retired as a First Sergeant
in 1962.

On Thanksgiving Day 1972, he received the call to preach. In 1976, he was ordained
at Mount Zion Baptist Church.  He graduated from the Washington Baptist Seminary
in 1977 (serving as Student Council President for three years) and from Lynchburg
Bible College in 1979.   He earned  his Bachelor of Bible Theology degree from the
International Bible Institute and Seminary in 1984 and his Doctor of Divinity in 1985.

Rev. Davis is a 32nd Degree Mason-MECCA Temple No. 10. He is the Statistician of
the Baptist Ministers Conference of Washington D.C. & Vicinity and represents the
700 Club in area.

Rev. Davis’s desire is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. He says, "I would preach
the Word of God if there were but one unsaved soul on earth.”

Rev. Davis and his wife, the former Ruth Burns of Burnsville, North Carolina, have
been married for 53 years. They have two daughters, the late Lanie Frazier and the
late Helen Young, seven grand children and
six great-grandchildren.
